ABOUT
Welcome to my website!
I am a historian by profession, a volunteer art gallery curator, and an avid reader.
The literary section of this website includes book reviews, biographical sketches of authors, recommendation lists, and poems. It is idiosyncratic and incomplete, but is meant to convey my enthusiasm for the pleasure and value of reading.
The visual arts section of the website presents (mainly) 21st century representational art, essentially art depicting recognizable objects of our world or imagination. It is intended to highlight the excellent art being made in that broad category and the artists who create the work, sometimes with brief commentary about the symbolic, literary, mythological, or historical references in the art.
The website name—The Easy Chair—pays tribute to the subject of my dissertation, George William Curtis (1824-1892), an author, editor, orator, and reformer. For more than 30 years, he wrote “The Easy Chair” column for Harper’s Monthly.
I want to express my gratitude to Alex Nauges for designing the website and handling the technical side.
Thanks for visiting,
Robert C. Kennedy
